State Tretyakov Gallery

The State Tretyakov Gallery is one of the biggest and most famous museums in the world. It was founded in 1856 by the merchant, benefactor and collector Pavel Tretyakov, and in 1892 he gifted the gallery to Moscow. The historical building is located in one of the oldest city districts - in Zamoskvorechie.
The richest collection of the Russian art from XI till the beginning of the XX century is exhibited here. in the Ancient Russian section of the Museum the visitors can enjoy priceless icons of XII-XVII centuries, including the faimous Andrey Rublev Trinity. And of course here, in this gallery, you can see such masterpieces as "The Bogatyrs" by Viktor Vasnetsov, "The horsewoman" by Karl Brullov, "The girl with the peaches" by Valentin Serov, "The morning in the pine forest" by Ivan Shishkin etc.
The building of Tretyakov Galery is eye-catching in itself. It was constructed in the "Russian stile" in 1904 on sketches of Viktor Vasnetsov.
The St. Nicolas church-museum in Tolmachi is included to the complex of Tretyakov Galery. There you can find the greatest shrine and at the same time world-famous artwork – The Theotokos of Vladimir.

The St. Nicolas church-museum of the Tretyakov Galery complex is open for its visitors everyday, except Monday from 12 am till 4 pm. The entry is located in the center entrance of Tretyakov Gallery.
